Shibamata

Shibamata has preserved much of its old look which is reminiscent of old downtown Tokyo. It is perhaps best known as the hometown of the movie series “Otoko wa Tsuraiyo” (“It’s Tough Being a Man”) and the films’ hero, better known as Tora-san, became the symbol of the district. Originally the town grew around Shibamata Taishakuten, a Buddhist temple, and that dates back to the Edo Period (1603-1868).
