Takayama Spring Festival

The Takayama Matsuri has been held for over 400 years and takes place twice a year in spring and in autumn. The Spring festival is the festival of the Hie Shrine, located in the south, and is held on the 14 and 15th of April. It is also known as the Sanno Festival and is originally celebrated by the people living in the southern half of downtown Takayama and celebrates the end of winter (and the beginning of spring). During the festival cherry blossoms are often in full bloom.
